This arm panel is a great place to add a little something extra with a contrasting leather or fabric.
When I started with this frame as the Utah chair, I wanted to get the same "invisible" sense that Ferragamo achieved with his sandal. I often work with spaces that are visually tight and cluttered. This pass through arm paired with the tall and slender leg offer a much smaller visual scale than most frames of this size. To further reduce the visual scale on the sofa, I decided to channel quilt a tight back so that when we stretched the chair into a sofa, it didn't lose that "invisible" feel.
Solid White Maple is finished in an Aniline dye similar to process used to tan leathers. This gives you complete transparency of grain so you can see all details in this unique wood species.
The dramatic slope and pitch of the back was inspired by one of Salvatore Ferragamo's most iconic shoe designs, the invisible sandal.
