The Pointe chair and ottoman was inspired by one of Salvatore Ferragamo's shoe patents that he created after his daughter Fiamma took up ballet. The simplistic lines that make up this slipper inspired me to create a lounge chair that is both beautiful and practical. The sketch pattern on the heel was a beautiful example of the natural and heavily textured grain of Ash wood. In staying true to Ferragamo's form, the front of the chair starts with a smaller scale of exposed Ash wood and creates a graceful curve as it gets larger towards the outback of the chair. The small exposed wing and inside curve of the rear leg allows for a delightful interpretation of a ballerina in pointe pose. As a finishing detail, it became evident that the exposed Ash wood should run around the outside back of the chair essentially "tying" the arms to the chair just as the laces tie the slipper to the ballerina's ankle. The ottoman in this sketch features the Pointe legs of the ballerina, and a flip top that has an ottoman on one side, and a solid surface on the other side. This allows you to pull it up next to you to serve as an end table.
